China is a huge country, and is very different from region to region, so it depends on where you are going. It is generally very safe, but watch out for pick-pockets in larger cities especially shanghai. I have been to around 30 countries and the only trouble i had was i got swindled by a money changer in indonesia, and I got my pocket picked in shanghai in a large crowd. i felt my back pocket and it was unbuttoned, and by the time i got to a clearing in the crowd i went to button it, and it was gone.

another peice of advice is at street markets don't be afraid to bargain, the price they tell you is usually a starting point. it is easier if before you show interest in something, pick a price in your head of what you will pay and stick to it. also just about everything in the street markets are fake, even clothing etc.

I was there in April and it snowed. Very COLD in North East China. I traveled to five cities. I was working on some multi-government contracts and I had a blast. We had people with us at all times that spoke the language. The food was great, but don't ask what you are eating!!Everybody was very nice to us and tried hard to talk to us about everything!!

If you eat rice with fish or veggies it's the safest!

It can be cold in northern parts.

Take a trip to Hong Kong if you like to shop!
